Expired Clearances & Your Next Steps

Instructions for Renewing Your PA Child Welfare Clearances


Your PA child welfare clearance is valid for 5 years before it needs to be renewed.
www.backgroundmanager.com will notify individuals by email 30 days before your clearance expires.


If your clearance is expiring this is what you need to do.

  • Go to the PA child welfare website to apply for a clearance. The website address is https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home
  • Once your clearance is emailed to you, it needs to be uploaded to your www.backgroundmanager.com account.
  • You do this at www.backgroundmanager.com and click the icon at top right of screen, "Account Log In". Enter your email address and password (there is a forgot password tab if needed).
  • Upload your clearance, and backgroundmanager will verify it and post if for HVAA.
